Holiday Cheer at the Hub

Happy Monday! Likely you’re all recovering from a wonderful weekend celebrating the holidays with friends, families and coworkers……. or 20,000 of your closest friends at santacon.

Hope you saved some energy, because it’s another exciting week here at the Hub.

Wednesday December 16th: Holiday Extravaganza

Not to be outdone, the Hub is hosting it’s own holiday party. We hope all members will join us from 12-1:30 for a celebratory potluck. Later that afternoon, we’ll mingle with other change agents at the David Brower Center’s holiday party from 3-4. As always, you can find more information about the parties and all events at our Hub google calendar.

Then you might as well just camp out at the Hub, cause Thursday is going to be a doozy you don’t want to miss!

Thursday December 17th: 12-1 Brown-Bag Lunch: Extreme Community and Resilience Planning

How do local communities transform themselves into active instruments for building local resilience? Cliff Figallo, a co-founder of two groundbreaking social experiments – The Farm and The WELL – invites you to join him in a conversation about new perspectives on preparing for rapid and radical change in the places where we live. This brown-bag promises to be an exciting and relevant way to spend a Thursday lunch.

Thursday December 17th: Legal Huddlle with Hanson Bridgett Law Firm

Once again Hansen Bridgett are openning their doors to offer free legal services to hub members. Please e-mail the hosts if you would like to sign up for a 30 minute consultation slot between 4-6 (bayarea.hosts@the-hub.net). Then stick around from 6:30-8:30 for complementary hors d’oeuvres while Arman Javid, Attorney at Hanson Bridgett and Craig Flas, Founder and CEO of Good Things Green, lead an interactive discussion on “Negotiating term sheets for convertible notes and equity investments.”

These legal huddles are always popular, so please RSVP HERE!

Tis the season!

Thanks for all the Hub member perks!

The life of a Hub member sure is tough sometimes. One day you’re enjoying delicious organic salad potlucks, the next receiving free legal services. Last Thursday was particularly challenging when Hub member Elizabeth Ferguson opened up her ‘office’ doors to provide free coaching services to Hub members.

In all sincerity, as a lucky recipient of this service, I just want to pass on a very warm THANK YOU to Elizabeth on behalf of all our members. Elizabeth allowed many of us to take a step back from our busy schedules, reflect, set goals, improve, and refocus on our purpose as social innovators and entrepreneurs. She provided invaluable career insights and guidance in the middle of this hectic holiday season.

Next up for Hub’s day time member perks? Wednesday the 9th’s sexy salad (our now infamous lunch-time potluck) will feature a discussion about education and food. Thursday the 10th you can huddle up with expert Hanley Brite to discuss entrepeneurship and sole-proprietership from 12-1. Check out our google calendar for details, or e-mail the hosts bayarea.hosts@the-hub.net.

West Coast Village Capital: info session Monday night

In case you missed the big announcement, the Hub Bay Area is partnering with First Light Ventures to offer West Cost Village Capital (WCVC)- a new model of investing in social enterprises using peer groups of entrepreneurs.

We’re pretty excited about the opportunity this offers our members to scale-up their social ventures, and it seems we’re not the only ones. In just the few short days since the announcement, the blogosphere is already buzzing.

If you’d like to find out what all the excitement is about, or simply share in our joy, please swing by the Hub Monday night for the info session. This is the best place to have your questions answered about how village capital will work, how to be involved, and what this means for the Hub community.

You’ll find all the details of the event here, and please do RSVP if you can. It helps us look our best for your arrival.
