Hub SoMa Weekly Roll Up: Spring Forward and Summer Coming

Hey Hubbers,

Fortunately I only had to sleep Sunday morning; I do not miss the days of being late to a shift. Anyone have a good DST story? Anyway, it was nice to leave the Hub in the light at 7pm. Come on Spring!!

HUB VENTURES:The finalists have been announced!! Congratulations to all who have contributed and followed the process. We are really excited about this Hub Venture Cohort and keep your eye out for them as they will be frequenting the space in the upcoming weeks.

SUMMER INTERNS: Hub member Paul Campbell of GVI (www.gviusa.com) is launching an internship program (www.academyinternships.com) for young people seeking professional experience with social sector host organizations. GVI will apply its 13 years of experience in providing volunteers for NGOs in the developing world to the screening, training, logistics (incl. visas) and any additional support needed for interns and host organizations. Interns will participate in either an 8-week summer program, or in ad hoc placements throughout the year for varying lengths of time. The service will be free of charge to the host organization. If you are interested in hosting interns, contact Paul: paul.campbell@gviworld.com or complete this online form: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/academypartners

HUB BERKELEY EVENTS: What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than an evening filled with Free Organic Beer and Clif Bars, and the President of Bison Brewer and CFO of Clif Bar THIS Thursday, March 17. This will be a very memorable evening: Don’t Miss It!

As many of you have been following over the weekend, Japan is going through absolute devastation right now. Over the next week, the Hub Squad will be setting up a system of donation for members to easily have 100% of any contribution go to Japan relief funds. Please look out for this.

HUB WORKBENCH

Bailin an MBA, MA and Enrolled Agent (EA – a designation allowing her to represent taxpayers before the IRS.)  She has served clients as a Socially Responsible investment adviser and prides herself on cutting through the hype and mystery of personal finance.
  • March 17 Profit Debate: Non-profit VS. For-profit RSVP at: http://profitdebatelab.eventbrite.com/: Are you interested in the pros and cons of for-profit and not-for-profit? Maybe you’re thinking the 501c3 is just too much work?  How does profit designation change the world you are working in — ethically, reach of mission, people working around you? If you are having The Profit Debate, then we would like you to join us for a discussion about the path you have taken or the one you are about to take.

Of everyone who reads this, I like you the best.

Tim
