Book Launch @ Hub SoMa

Join Fast Company reporter Anya Kamenetz for a discussion Thursday June 3 from 4:30pm-6:00pm at Hub SoMa about how entrepreneurship and technology are changing education and her new book DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs, and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education.
The increase in the price of college tuition is a well known new change; however, it may be surprising to learn that college tuition has increased more than any other major good or service for the last 20 years. Kamenetz discovered that nine out ten American high school seniors aspire to go to college but the United States has fallen from world leader to only the tenth most educated nation. These surprising facts are added to by findings that almost half of college students don’t graduate and those who do have unprecedented levels of federal and private student loan debt, which constitutes a credit bubble similar to the mortgage crisis. Kamenetz’s book explores these statistics in her book and speaks of a clear choice that needs to be made between radically changing the way higher education is delivered, or resign to never having enough of it. Make sure to RSVP to this event and find out more about Anya Kamenetz and DIY U.
