We have some great food centric events this week. Come by the Hub and discuss awesome social topics over healthy, rejuvenating food!
Tomorrow we are having our weekly Sexy Salad Day(members and invited guests only) at the Hub. Bring your favorite salad ingredient or side and join fellow members in the Hubble for an update on the new Hub opening in San Francisco, Hub SoMa.
Is your New Year’s Resolution to eat and cook healthier? If so, you should attend the New Year/New Body Lunch at The Hub with Jonis Sare. Joni is a Healthy Eating Coach, and Personal Therapeutic Chef. Her talk will include a bit of physiology and biochemistry of the body. Please RSVP to email@example.com with one question (a short one, pertaining to the topic, please) that you’d like to have addressed during the meeting. This will be a participatory luncheon: each participant will make a dish to share with the group. During the luncheon we’ll talk through everyone’s process of making the dishes and what benefits they serve. Please click “Keep Reading” below for a list of dishes you can make.
Thursday 1-2 p.m.
The Food Working Group will be meeting to discuss, among other things, issues relating to sustainable food, urban farming, and food justice. The group will also be taking a look at survey results studying what the needs of Food organizations are and how the Hub can collaborate and/or facilitate their needs ((Non-members are welcome to check out one meeting; members only for ongoing involvement).

If you are interested in International Development and Earthquake Preparedness come hear a discussion led by Elizabeth Hausler founder of BuildChange.org at 9 a.m. in the Hubble Meeting Space (Members and Invited Guests Only). This organization designs earthquake-resistant houses in developing countries and trains builders, homeowners, engineers, and government officials to build them. Get your day off to an inspired start!
As per usual, it’s Sexy Salad Wednesday! (Members and Invited Guests Only) Bring a salad ingredient or something to go with it and share a meal and conversation with your fellow Hub members. Collaboration has never been this much fun! We’ll kick it off at 12 p.m. in the Hubble Meeting Room
And to top off the day, come by An Evening with Social Innovators (Open to the Public) 6:00-7:3o p.m. Meet and mingle with Wesleyan alumni for an evening on blurring of the lines between nonprofits and for profits, investment and philanthropy, and other mysterious and interesting topics. Joshua Kagan ’01 and Tim Freundlich ’90 will host at Hub Berkeley, a cutting edge new workspace and meeting place for social entrepreneurs and their funders. Tim, co-founder of Good Capital (http://www.goodcap.net) and Senior VP at Calvert Social Investment Foundation (http://www.calvertfoundation.org), will give framing remarks for the evening from his vantage point at the intersection of social enterprise and impact investing. Tim’s comments will be followed by plenty of time to meet with other alumni interested in social innovation to share ideas, and to reconnect with old friends. Wine and pre-dinner snacks will be provided.
The life of a Hub member sure is tough sometimes. One day you’re enjoying delicious organic salad potlucks, the next receiving free legal services. Last Thursday was particularly challenging when Hub member Elizabeth Ferguson opened up her ‘office’ doors to provide free coaching services to Hub members.
In all sincerity, as a lucky recipient of this service, I just want to pass on a very warm THANK YOU to Elizabeth on behalf of all our members. Elizabeth allowed many of us to take a step back from our busy schedules, reflect, set goals, improve, and refocus on our purpose as social innovators and entrepreneurs. She provided invaluable career insights and guidance in the middle of this hectic holiday season.
Next up for Hub’s day time member perks? Wednesday the 9th’s sexy salad (our now infamous lunch-time potluck) will feature a discussion about education and food. Thursday the 10th you can huddle up with expert Hanley Brite to discuss entrepeneurship and sole-proprietership from 12-1. Check out our google calendar for details, or e-mail the hosts firstname.lastname@example.org.
